Mortify Daily!

Do you mortify; do you make it your daily work; be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you. Your being dead with Christ virtually, your being quickened with him, will not excuse you from this work. And our Saviour tells us how his Father deals with every branch in him that beareth fruit, every true and living branch. ” He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit,” John 15:2. He prunes it, and that not for a day or two, but whilst it is a branch in this world.

  1. Man! I have a hard enough time waking up daily! And now you want me to mortify daily? Can I at least get my cup of coffee beforehand?

Seriously, this needs to be preached from more pulpits in America, and practiced more in our pews.

  2. Amen Interface!
Tomorrow, Owen will be talking about the delusion of Perfectionism.
Oh, and I am sure that coffee is essential to the mortification of sin, why else would God have made it?

  3. A great quote. Piper has an excellent sermon series on Killing Sin where he shares this quote.

I was wondering today what living theologians you liked … I know you like the dead guys.

  4. Hey Jude, there are a very few living theologians I like. Piper is most definitely at the top of my list. There really are not too many more that I listen to or read on a regular basis. Sproul is one. Truly, the long dead theologians said it best, and many of them, finished their course very well.
